    Hi,

Is it possible to use standard computer network patch leads in place of the red patch leads supplied, to interconnect C-BUS units (say dimmer to PC unit etc).

I am putting together a test rig this weekend to test out C-BUS.

In the final install, I will use the correct cables, but Just need a temp solution.

Yes, that will work fine. The pink ones are (supposedly) shielded against nasty 240V which it will running past in a real install, but the actual cable is wired the same and you should have no problems at all.

Nothing "supposedly" about it. The insulation material on the pink cat5 cable is actually a different material when compared to regular cat5 cable, making it safe for use in switchboards and the like.

Valid point. From switch to switch is generally not an issue however as due to the nature of a cbus install, you're not going past the 240. I have seen many installs in the past where the electrician was forced to use the blue as pink was missing or damaged and never had an issue.

Obviously use the pink if you can.

Just remember that running Cat-5 cable inside an electrical switchboard is illegal if the insulation is not rated at 3750V and the conductors are connected to an SELV system, which is the case with C-Bus.
