The 5753PEIRL has the ability to have it's sensitivity reduced by adjusting one of the pots, default is Pot B. If you have trouble with the dog, you can try turning down the sensitivity to reduce tripping.

The trouble is, both a dog and a person are warm-blooded, and a PIR can't really tell the difference between the two. All it has to go on is the (typically) smaller thermal profile of the dog. How do you discriminate between two heat signatures of different sizes I hear you say? You reduce the sensitivity. Trouble is, this only effective at one distance. The signal gets weaker and weaker as you move away from the sensor, so reducing the sensitivity also reduces the effective detection range.

All I can suggest is that you give a 5753PEIRL a go and see if you can achieve your desired results by reducing the sensitivity on Pot B.

From the sound of this it looks like it is about time that CIS developed a smell sensor or maybe a 5753PEIRL with smell sensor option. I have a German Shepard dog who is about 10 years old. She thinks she runs the show (come to think of it she mainly does) but at 10 years old she really smells like a .....dog. She also weighs about 40 kilos, so as Newman points out with that sort of thermal signature the only way I can think of stopping the dog from turning on the lights is to incorporate a smell sensor in NAND logic ????

The other option is to kick the dog outside orrrrrrrrrrrrr if the dog is allowed inside let it turn the lights on to the appropriate level (depending on time of night) for the same reason why we have auto light control for the silly humans ;)

Ohh - come to think about it a standard logic gate won't cut it - looks like you will need a mini built in PACA as well.

How long will it take for this product to be available :D
