    Hi,

I'm trying to switch over from a serial connection to a LAN connection, so that I can connect to my C-BUS network remotely.

I've connected a Lantronix UDS1100 to my 5500PC and can connect to it successfully using the CBus diagnostic utility (specifying an IP address/port). The diagnostic utility scans my network fine and everything appears to work OK.

When I try and do the same using the C-Bus toolkit, I am able to open the network but when I try and scan it, it doesn't return any results and fails with a "Network scan failed" message. Putting a monitor on the Lantronix interface appears to show messages being sent and received successfully but obviously something is not quite right.

    I am using C-Bus toolkit 1.14.2, C-Gate v2.10.6 running on Windows 7, 64 bit.

I've tried the same setup on another PC with no luck.

Any help would be much appreciated, as I've run out of ideas as to what to try next.

    Many thanks,

    Tim

Do you have a null modem (crossover) cable between the lantronix and the 5500PC?

    Cheers

    Hi Rohan,

I do have a null modem cable between the two. My original thoughts was that there was a problem with the cabling/Lantronix configuration but as the C-Bus diagnostics program appears to connect and scan the network fine (via the same Lantronix setup), I was guessing the problem was with the C-Bus toolkit/C-Gate setup, but not 100% sure?

    Cheers,

    Tim

The diagnostics utility does not scan the network like Toolkit does. It connects directly to the interface PCI/CNI where as toolkit talks to C-Gate which talks to the PCI/CNI.

Are you using the Lantronix port redirector software to create a virtual com port?
You shouldn't need to, but it is an alternative to try and narrow down the problem.

I get the feeling there is a gotcha in your setup, can you describe exactly what you have, and the steps you went through to setup the UDS.

    Cheers

    Hi Tim
I have had trouble scanning a network with Toolkit using a similar setup.
Could you try to add a new project manually, set the connection details and then try to open the network rather than scan.
    That works for me.
Scanning by using "Find CBus Networks" does not.

At least via my 3rd party ethernet device server.

    Hi Rohan/Daryl,

I've managed to solve the problem. The solution in the end was a factory reset of the Lantronix UDS1100. The device was second hand and I'd refreshed the firmware, so had assumed it was running all defaults. I suspect there must have been a setting from the previous owner, which the C-Bus diagnostic program was more tolerant of than C-Gate.

Thanks again for your suggestions, as it pointed me in the right direction to sorting it.

    Cheers,

    Tim

    Hi Tim
    Just for my own interest.
Were you able to use the "find network" function.
Or did you aready have the project in Toolkit.

    Hi Daryl,

In the end I just restored an old copy of the project that I used to use when I connected to the network directly via the serial port.

During my testing however, I did try creating a brand new project and that also appeared to work OK once the Lantronix had been reset to default settings.

It was quite a strange C-Gate fault, as C-Gate appeared to be sending and receiving messages OK to the CBUS network but it looked like all of the received messages were corrupted as far as C-Gate was concerned.

    Cheers,

    Tim
