The computor does not respond when I click the icons on the screen ,the functions then only come on after I clicked on the time of the computor at the bottom right and ok .
What can be the cause ,and can I download a newer better version , everything was working fine but computor was not responding and had to be switched of ,problem started after this problem .It show 0/1 networks online and only change for a short time to 1/1 network online if I click on the time or go to operation mode .I tried to reinstall HomeGate 3.4.1.0 but it gives the following error 1,setup has failed to find a valid install of homegate
    please help urgently:confused:

It sounds like the PC might have a few issues going on there, so the best place to start is with a phone call to Clipsal Technical Support.

    http://www2.clipsal.com/cis/technical/technical_support

Some useful information to gather before you call will be things like:

    • Tech specs of the PC it's installed on
    • Whether you are using a touchscreen or a mouse for input
    • Operating system the PC is running on
    • Whether the HomeGate dongle is plugged into the PC (without the dongle, HomeGate will not operate correctly as it tells HomeGate that it is a legal copy of HomeGate)

If it shows 0/1 networks on-line, then there are communications problems. HomeGate can not control C-Bus if the networks are off-line. You need to solve this problem before doing anything else. Refer to the document C:\Clipsal\HomeGate\Manuals\Advanced Fault Diagnosis.pdf for details of analysing site problems.

Do you have the CD with HomeGate on it?

If not, it is possible that your version of HomeGate is not licensed.

From a valid version 3.4.1 of HomeGate, you should be able to upgrade to V3.9.0 to get a more up to date version. This can be obtained by going to http://www2.clipsal.com/cis/technical/downloads/home_gate and clicking on the Show Old Versions link. To go past this version, you will need to purchase a dongle.

Prior to V4 of HomeGate, it was C-Gate that had to be licensed. Since V4, it is HomeGate that needs the license.

So for V3.9 of HomeGate, you will need to have a C-Gate dongle. If you don't have one, C-Gate will time-out.

The C-Bus software downloads pages show a compatibility chart to show which versions of the various pieces of software work with each other.
    http://www2.clipsal.com/cis/technical/downloads/home_gate

If possible, I would try and persevere with HomeGate 3.9.0. It will enable you to use newer versions of the other C-Bus software products, which might not be so important now, but could become an issue if you decide to expand on your installation with products that weren't available at the time those old software versions were created.

    You say:
... can you give some more information? Is this a C-Bus product? How is it related to your HomeGate installation?

You haven't said whether there is a dongle plugged into your PC. This determines what is possible.

The Clipsal PC Interface is not the dongle, it is just the interface between the PC and the C-Bus network.

A C-Gate dongle is a parallel port adapter that plugs into the parallel port of your PC. When you buy HomeGate (it is not free) the licence is supplied on this parallel port adapter, called a dongle.

If you have bought this house recently, but the owner has not left you the parallel port dongle on the PC running HomeGate, then he has effectively taken your permission to use HomeGate with him.

It has been a very long time since we have worked with HomeGate V3.9 and the associated C-Gate. I think that we may have provided some misleading information.

For this version of software, you did need a dongle for C-Gate, but only if you had more than 2 C-Bus networks. The dongle is the device which plugged into the PC parallel port as Newman said.

If you only have 1 or 2 C-Bus networks, C-Gate should run OK.

So the question remains about why the C-Bus networks are going off-line. The only way to know for sure is to obtain a C-Gate "event level 9 log". To do this:
    1. Close HomeGate and C-Gate
    2. Open the C-Gate configuration file (c:\Clipsal\C-Gate2\C-GateConfig.txt)
    3. Activate logging by setting use-event-file to yes
    4. Select the log file name using the event-filename parameter
    5. Select the level of event reporting using the global-event-level parameter. Event level 5 is the normal setting. Event level 9 records everything. Set to level 9 for now.
    6. Save the file when complete
    7. Start HomeGate and wait until you see the networks go into the error state.
    8. Close HomeGate and C-Gate
    9. Send the log file to CIS technical Support and ask them to forward it to me
    10. Disable the C-Gate log again (similar to steps 2 to 6, but set use-event-file to no)

We will need an extract from a C-Gate event level 9 log at the time of this unit sync failure to determine what is going on.

This is a very old version of firmware. There is currently a problem with C-Touch re-booting (which will be fixed in a service pack very soon), but this is a very recent issue. Firmware V2.22.0 would not have this problem.

It is difficult to know what the problem might be with this unit.

The new version of PICED about to be released will have a new feature which might be able to stop the unit from resetting so that you can re-program it.
