    Hi

I have only just got back into the Home Automation industry after almost a 2 yr break, just helping a guy set up a CBus system for a customer and he gave me some gear including a 5500CN to test for this new house.
All of the Gear is working and the 5500CN is working, I can ping it and all of that but when I try to connect to it using the ToolKit 1.6.1 software the unit is found I try to download the database and that's where it fails with the fantastic BSOD, that is on the first attempt - from there on, as soon as the interface is found I get the BSOB (Blue Screen OF Death) and obviously I then have to reset my computer and start all over again!
The ToolKit works fine with my USB - Serial converter and I can connect to all but an old interface (5100PC) that I have on my own home, the standard 5500PC works without a hitch - by the way I love the new toolkit!

Computer Compaq Laptop - Presafio V2000, Windows XP SP2

Any help, fixes, fault resolutions would be appreciated.

    Regards

Dare I suggest it, but if you are having troubles with a BSOD when using Toolkit, then I think it *most* likely your PC configuration is strange.

Toolkit has some built in exception handling capabilities, and the nature of the more modern Windows OS's is such that processes run in their own (supposedly) protected address space, so they cannot crash the machine.

Device drivers and other such exciting things, on the other hand, poke into the bowels of the operating system and can cause all manner of nastiness if they are not quite right.

So, I'd suggest you run windows update, and check your anti-virus / firewall configuration carefully (you do have anti-virus software I hope).

I'm afraid it's going to be hard going to figure a solution to this. Start with the basics and make sure all of your PC is running ok. If possible, run toolkit on a different PC (beg, borrow, etc one).

    Hi
Thanks I will try this ASAP, have not had a chance to play with this since as I was testing the interface for a customer and had to return it :-(
I suspect that my problem is related to a denied reg change during installation I usually switch the protection off during software installs but forgot on this case - TOOOOOOO much protection some times.
