    Hi there
First post on this forum. (Don't know why I didn't think to google this before...)
We have had Cbus installed throughout our house since new (5 years) and it has been fabulous. Took my wife a while to see the benefits v extra $$$ but now she is on the same page and loving the flexability.
Anyway we recently had to replace the computer that controls it and toolkit + more. I had the computer shop transfer all the data across from the old hard drive. It booted up ok and apart from a few minor driver issues appears to work, but it wont talk to toolkit or cbus. I suspect that there is an incorrect IP address or something similar. Whilst I am not altogether computer illiterate, I am out of my depth on this one. I would imagine this site would be filled with computer gurus for whom this problem would be an easy fix, unlike us mere mortals lol. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What exactly do you mean by this? Does ToolKit run?

I take it you have an Ethernet CNI on your C-Bus network that the computer uses as the interface to C-Bus. If that is the case, then the computer and the CNI need to be configured to 'talk' to each other on the same TCP/IP network, or talk via routes between networks. (If you don't know what a route is, then you likely don't need to know)

If my assumption is correct, then some of this may help...

For example, in my network, my CNI TCP/IP address is 192.168.10.3, which is on a class C private subnet with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 (which means the first three bytes are the network number, and last byte is the host). The computer that runs Toolkit and C-Gate has an address of 192.168.10.245, with the same mask. They are therefore on the same TCP/IP network, and can 'talk'.

In toolkit, select the 'File' menu at the top, then 'Set Default Interface...'. This will show you the interface type and address details that used to be set up on your old computer to talk to the CNI. Hopefully. So write down this address.

Next, open a command prompt on your computer (Start, Run, CMD.EXE), and type 'IPCONFIG | MORE'. If you're a bit computer literate, then you should be able to identify the network interface on your computer, and see what the TCP/IP network details are set to. I reckon that the network details that you see here will not match the CNI address details you wrote down...

If they don't match, you might know how to fix it up, or may not. If you don't, you need to tell me what computer operating system you are using for me to give further advice. I'd also need to know other details (like whether a connection is set up to the internet, or whether Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol-DHCP is being used).

If you've changed the network and computer, and all the TCP/IP config, then the best way to fix things will not be by messing with the computer at all, but by using a configuration utility to set the CNI address to suit the new network.

    Cheers!

Or... You might have a serial attached PCI. If this is the case, then COM port settings will likely be incorrect (or non-existent). Totally different problem/diagnosis/resolution.

Thanks for all the replies. I have just spent a couple of hours on the phone to Clipsal tech support (took them that long to work out the problem and fix it). It seems that I had different versions of Cgate toolkit Homegate that were not compatible and would not load my network details. We had to load older versions to make it work!!???
Also it appears that although we have spent mega $$ on the system and software, Clipsal now want us to pay over $600 for an upgrade dongle!
I think I will just stick to the old software. Great tech support from CIS but whoa on the dongle.
    cheers
