hi, I am installing a cbus system into my home.

I currently have Cat5 prewired and an htpc with a custom interface driving a 22" touchscreen.

I would first like to get a security system which can be controlled via the pc and cbus.

Can someone please recommend me such a system. I live in New Zealand.

    thanks for your time.

I'd recommend you check out the C-Bus enabled Homesafe panel, and seriously consider getting yourself a Wiser.

The Homesafe integrates really nicely with a home C-Bus install, and the Wiser will give you internal and external access to this and the rest of your system via a flash enabled web browser.

    Homesafe

    Hi Nick, thanks for replying.

I wish to be able to control the security system via rs232/IP so that I can intergrate it with my custom interface. If it interfaces into C-bus, can I then control C-bus programaticaly which in turn would control the alarm?

Also, can I use the Homesafe panel without C-bus first being installed.

    thanks for your help.

This depends on the security panel. Some will, some won't. It depends on what the RS232 interface permits, and how the alarm maker has integrated that with cbus.

Suggest you look at HomeSafe and the Elk M1.

    Yes.

Comfort which is a CBus-enabled product, has a very powerful Rs232 interface (or Ethernet), the UCM05, which allows you to control it and anything connected to it like Cbus. The RS232 /Ethernet interface also reports status of alarms and other events and can be queried for any state or event

Terribly sorry - I forgot - slychiu is quite right. The other panel out there which is cbus enabled is the Comfort.

So to what you want to do, a C-Bus Enabled panel (that has been checked out by Clipsal) is likely to do you better service than one which is not.

The Homesafe panel uses its RS232 interface to connect to C-Bus... and it does not have an IP interface. Someone else has already done all the hard work here, so I think you will find it much easier to just control it (Arm/Disarm etc) and monitor it (you can program the panel to issue C-Bus messages on various events like Arm, Disarm, Alarm, Zone Unsealed, End Exit/Entry delay etc)... it does however mean you will need an interface into C-Bus to integrate with your custom interface.

A device which includes the logic engine makes this *much much* easier. A Wiser gives you this and the ability to write logic that uses IP/socket connections (which you could probably use to integrate with your interface), as well as a nice Flash UI. A touchscreen/PAC gives you logic and one/two RS232 ports respectively.
