    Hi,

A customer of mine has just reported an issue with one of his 12 Channel Relay's. Issue being that, his house was hit by a power surge and since then at least two sets of lights (two channels) have been playing up. Customer claims that the lights come on at random times, lights do not however turn themselves off, they just come on.

The 12 channel relay is L5512RVF, customer did not have any issues with the system prior to the power surge. He does not have any surge protection. There is no schedule or scene in connection with this issue, there are just two known sets of lights coming on without warning.

Am I able to check the relay itself to see if its damaged? Is there anyother fault finding that i can do to test the behaviour of the relay?

    Thanks for any assistance.

    Aleks

    Hi Zorro
Do the relevant key inputs still operate the lights which are coming on unexpectedly?
If not I would start by connecting toolkit and having a look at the programming of the relay.
Also have a look and see if any other units are missing.

    Always surge protect C-Bus installations.

For the record, every C-Bus installation should include surge protection. This was part of the Basic C-Bus Training course in the past, and I would imagine it still is.

(Zorro, I realise that your customer may have had someone other than you do their C-Bus installation. This comment is primarily for others reading your post.)

Hi and thanks for the input.

Yes the relay still operates the lights as per normal, i.e. lights may be operated from the same means as previous. Issue is that they now seem to come on at random times.

And Brendon, I agree. I didn't do the install on this job another electrician did. It was actually the first question I asked him.

I'm going out to view the job through Toolkit, this might give me a bit of insight into whats going on.

    Thanks
