Question to a DLT expert !

I have set a DLT key to trigger a scene stored on another unit but I am unable to edit the label associated with the key and the default text is meaningless. Is there a way, I can edit the label.

To program the key behavior, this is what I have done,

    1. Define a scene on a unit with spare memory (in this case a multi sensor)
    2. Associate the scene with a virtual key of the unit and with an action trigger.
    3. Set the DLT key on the trigger control application and to the proper trigger group,
    4. Assign the function "Trigger 1" to the key and set the action trigger to the proper value.

This all works well however the label associated with the key is "Button 8" and I am unable to edit the text because editing is disable for that label. btw, I guess the text "Button 8" comes from the number of the virtual button define at step 2.

Any idea about what I change the text ?

(Please note that I know there are other methods to trigger a scene remotely, however what I am doing is slightly more complicated than described here : I am trying to set a button to trigger a different scene whether it receives a short or long press. the triggering method is needed to achieve the result.)

Unfortunately I think the only way the DLT accepts labels on the Trigger Control application is when the key is configured as a scene key.

The only way I can think of to achieve what you're looking to do would be to move the scene trigger to the lighting application and move the scene into a logic-enabled device which will accept scene triggers from lighting applications.

DLT key labels are applied either as group control keys (typical on / off level or timer control of a single group), or as scene keys (lists of multiple group-level pairs assigned a set of levels.

As group control keys, labels can be assigned only if the application is NOT $FF, $DF or $CA.

As scene keys, the label is always applied to application $CA (control trigger)

If you have decided to 'trigger a scene' using a group control key on application $CA, you will NOT be able to label the key. This is not the way DLT keys were originally intended to be used.

I can understand why so many people desire to do this; it allows use of a single key to issue two different action selectors with the 'toggle' function. This ability has not been included as part of the scene functionality in wired units. (The original specification for DLT only required basic scene functionality - this is a fine example of how use of C-Bus products has evolved over time. More recently developed C-Bus units can handle this within the scene key functionality).

To apply labels, you can proceed one of two ways:
    a) configure the key as a scene key, so that it can trigger the scene (set up as a scene key but have no group-level entries), then apply the label to the scene, or
    b) configure the key to work in an application other than $FF, $DF or $CA and apply the label as a group control key in that application. You can change the application to $CA (trigger control) once the label has been applied.

In either case, you have to leave the key configuration as scene or group control in order to view the applied label.

    Don,

Thanks for your response. It works. Basically, the trick is to set the labels to whatever one wants, save them, then update the DLT logic and save it again with the "Save Lavels" option unchecked. This can probably be useful in other situations. I have also checked the "Block Dynamic Label" option to be sure.
