I have a COM port CNI, and I'd like to find the pin outs for connecting an RJ45 to a 9pin D plug. The unit is to go into an enclosure, so using the front D plug means I cant shut the door.

    Much appreciated

Well, the thing about standards is that there are none! The pin configuration for the serial cable that connects to the RJ45 on a PC Interface is different to that for a C-Touch by the looks of things.

Don't be intimidated by the thought of having to make one. They're not too hard. Either take an ethernet cable, cut one end of and solder on a DB9 or take a standard serial cable, cut one end off and crimp it into a RJ-45 connector.

This also gives you the flexibility of running pretty much any length cable you desire (within RS-232 rules). A common application is to run the RJ-45 to a wall plate somewhere in a control room from the PCI and then a serial <-> RJ connector to the PC.

I thought the RJ45 RS-232 pinouts for the C-Touch was the same as the PCI?? I have been using my C-Touch programming cable to connect to a PCI without problem. I have also made up some 9-pin to RJ45 adapters (from RS) so I can used standard networks cables to connect to PCI's and C-Touch...

Well, I could be wrong, and I would very much like to be but a quick glance at the doco suggested otherwise. Perhaps I misread it.

    ooo eerr

I have used (just this week) the standard C-Touch D9 to RJ lead to program not only touch screens but PCI's via their RJ sockets and I had no probs.

Yes, I have frequently used this cable with no problems at all. In fact if any one wants one, I have about 10 here (being Hobart)still in packets.
