    Hi

I have a strange problem with a projector screen in my installation. It is a 2C motorised screen connected via it's external output to a L5501RBPC. I have motorised blinds working under an identical configuration of wiring and hardware in the house as per the c-bus manual. I cannot get the screen to go up or down. When I plug the external control plug (RJ11) in, the screen's power switch (rocker type) changes from clicking on and off, to not being selectable for either position - it just sort of flicks back to the "middle" position. Could I have blown the screen's external controller? It still works fine if I get my 10FT ladder out and manually control it by the buttons on the side of the screen. Any ideas?

You haven't stated accurately enough how the Shutter Relay is wired into the screen motor/controller. Is it using the exact same input as the factory controller, i.e. do you have the Shutter Relay wired to an RJ11 connector that plugs into the motor controller at the same point?

Whenever these sorts of problems occur it's best to confirm the basics first.

Are the external inputs to the screen just dry contacts? If so, disconnect the external controller from the screen and probe across the contacts with a multimeter. Confirm which contacts close when you operate the buttons on the controller. Then, assuming the input to the screen controller is low voltage, put the multimeter leads across the Shutter Relay outputs and operate it from C-Bus. You're looking for the same contact closures on the same inputs to occur under both scenarios. With this confirmed there's no reason why it couldn't be wired to make it work.

If the Shutter Relay connects to the screen using a different method than the factory controller then you may have to do a bit more research. If it's switching the screen motor power directly, then I don't understand how you're plugging the original controller in.

It's possible, but not particularly relevant if you're going to use C-Bus to control the screen instead.

Thanks for the info Newman - The contacts are just dry contacts. I will get a multimeter in the next few days and test the connections in the way you have advised.
    I really appreciate your help.
The RJ11 plug was supplied by the manufacturer of the manufacturer of the screen, and had the 3 wires that we ran back to the shutter relay as per (I think!)their diagram. I have attached the info they gave me. Could you confirm the way you think I should have it wired to the shutter control unit so I can compare it to how I have it wired?

Based on that diagram you should have the following:

    • Red/GND/N wire connected to the A/L terminal on the shutter relay
    • Blue/Up/L wire connected to Open contact on the shutter relay
    • Yellow/Down/L wire connected to Close contact of the shutter relay

Thanks Newman - I will confirm I have the correct wiring tonight - cheers

I had a look at the wiring, and my sparky has connected a black wire to the N contact on the shutter relay. I removed it as it was not on your instructions, but it did not fix the situation. I will get a multimeter and check the wiring configs as you advised. The rest of the wires were configured corerctly
