    Hi guys,

Just a small request for the next toolkit version. Can we get the Project Name field increased to 16 characters? The current project name is limited to 8 characters. Not a big problem but after a hundred or so projects and variations, it would make it easier to give a project a more meaningful name.

    Thanks,

    Bit of a problem here.

The project name is stored in the units, and they only have room for 8 characters.

Maybe this could be a suggestion for future hardware then?

Still needs to be backwards compatible though.

Why can't you keep the 8 character field as a unique key (which can be hidden via the options) and add a description field with say 50 characters as part of the add project pop up box. Then display the text field in the tree ?

The unique key can be either automatically generated from the description field or the programmer can enter it, or its just a sequence number ?

Happy to expand further, but we should seriously consider this.

So if you program the unit, the unique key is linked to your long name. Ticks boxes, everyone happy.

What happens when somebody else comes along after you have retired to a small island off the coast of Spain, and he does not have your long description. He just gets the junk stuff?

    Hey ashleigh,

Well firstly ashleigh, as an approved installer I am bound by an agreement with clipsal to leave a copy of the program for the client, as well as a copy being sent to Clipsal. So when I retire to IBIZA the next guy will have access to all the program boots and all... :)

If there are programmers who do not leave a copy of the file with the client then the 8 characters project name would make as much sense then it does now.

Having said all of that, I believe there is still merrit in making this change.

Also does anyone know when clipsal intendent on storing the programming information on the network so this will not be an issue as well ?

    Happy to discuss further.

    "progra~1" vs "program files"

I think someone thought of the above a few years ago, I just cannot remember who :)

At least there is some correlation if the long name is missing.

Everyone's life would be a lot easier if all installers did this.

I am not sure exactly what you mean here. Unit programming is already stored "on the network" (in the units). The only thing not stored is the tag names. There have been several proposals for how to deal with this, but there is nothing planned in the short term.

What about allowing projects to be put into different folders in toolkit's 'Navigation Treeview'. That would eliminate any need to change hardware and allow us to organise the projects into customers or by year/date etc.

    Thanks,
