Hi my C-Bus gurus... (you all are gur?s for me, as this is my first one on C-Bus) :)

It might sound silly for most of you but this issue is driving me crazy.

I have a very small wired installation:

2 x voltage free relay with 200mA power supply integrated
    1 x 0-10v analogue output
    1 x Auxiliary input
    1 x Pascal Controller

My problem here is: I get to create the project and connect to the network (running), and when I get to the units view, there appear the units I created in the project on the supperior view (Units in Database), but there's no way I can get to appear the units on network, and when I try to "Scan Network" I get a 3051 Error, "Cannot open network. Please check your connections to this network". When I try "Scan new" I get a 22945 Error "Failed to scan new unit. Check network"...

Oh! one more thing, I can get to the Piced software and get connected to the PAC and download firmware and code if needed. (Just for info, don't know if relevant... :( )

Issue 2: Some of the installations (there's several of them, all equal) have the C-Bus led ON and some OFF (all thedevices). The Issue #1 happens in both cases.

So, I'm begging for your help here as I'm on my own here and it's driving me crazy...

I've created a flickr account with some screenshots and picturs about it, you can check it out at :

    Albert,

I have one word for you - "BURDEN"!

Search the forum for 'Burden' and your problems should be solved...

Thanks for this fast response Peter,

I'm looking into it, but I understand you enable the burden in one of the devices, how can I do that if I cannot download the device's configuration??

I found this thread about this issue...

    http://www.cbusforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4422&highlight=burden

Maybe the learn mode can enable the clock so all leds might come on, but what about the one installation where all leds are on and I'm still not able to scan the network? Is it possible I need a hardware burden, just to enable the software burden afeter that?

Sorry for my sillyness... and thank you!!

You must only use one burden - this can be either a hardware or software burden. A lot of people prefer the hardware burden as it is easy to see if it is installed or not.

Have you tried connecting directly to just one relay unit (using toolkit)? If it works you can check if the software burden and clock are enabled. Repeat for the second relay unit. This might help isolate the problem.

    Hi Leigh,

I have no hardware burdens, and the thing is I don't know how to enable/disable them without actually being able to scan them from the network so I can pair them with the ones from the project (where I can enable/disable burdens and clocks) and them download the configuration to them.

Anyway, I'll try tomorrow what you told me about isolating the devices one by one, I'll let you know...

Thanks a lot, amazing response time in this forum!!

    Albert,

The output unit installation manual describes how to enable the burden without Toolkit.

I think it's something like holding the channel 1 button down for 10 seconds whilst touching your left ear... :p

Anyway check with the manual, enable the burden and hopefully you should be able to scan your network, good luck! :)

    Got it!!

    Hi people!!!

It was the burden, it it ALLWAYS the burden... ;)

I had to enter into test mode one of my output switches, pressing during 10s the first channel, then 2s to go back to normal burden with the burden ON an so the C-Bus lights.

Then I finally could connect and Scan the Network...

... Just to find out another gazzillion problems to donwload/readdress/findmoredevicesthanthereare and some more...

... but only in some rooms!! Some took hours to properly download the (5!!!) devices (find them, no errors and so, and proper download and test), and some rooms went smooth and "fast???" (15min)

Why does it take so long to scan the network? Is that also normal?

Anyway, thanks a lot for your help guys!! This forum is gonna be my second home for a bit!! ;)

Glad you got it sorted... however there is no way it should take that long.

It is normal the first time you scan your network for it to have to rearrange it a bit... this is because all of the units come out of the factory with their address set to $FF (255). Toolkit/CGate has to "unravel" the network by moving the units to new addresses, one by one...

An unravel on a network this size should still only take minutes though... so it is possible you still have some underlying communications problems.

It's also not clear what you mean by "some rooms" took ages and others were quick.... you only have one network, right?

    Hi Nick,

It's not only one network, is one network per room!! I know this topology is kind of rare, but this is what they want to do, as they use another system to communicate the rooms, all of them have a UIO, so they'll be sending some commands from that system, through the UIO to each room...

In the unravel process, there's usually no problem, it's more on downloading and readdressing that I find some of them (less problems day by day), like random network disconnection and so... I'll keep programming rooms and tell you about the problems I find on the way... so you can laugh all day long ;)

Thanks a lot guys, your help is unpayable!
