In a project that I run now, for a poolside area, the client wants to use Neo switches for remote controlling them. Unfortunately, they will be installed in a non weather protected area.
Have you ever confronted this problem?

Is "style" and "fashionability" a major requirement in this situation? or would you be able to get away with putting the Neo inside one of those weatherproof enclosures designed for putting standard GPO's, etc, in outdoor areas? (Clipsal Cat No. 255)

    Just a thought....

You could connect practically any kind of weather proof switch that has a dry contact to a Bus Coupler?

Unfortunately Darpa, only the cis products of Clipsal imported in Greece. I will try to find something similar from another company. Have you ever tried it? The IR commands will be still effective?

Newman, remote control is a client?s demand. If I put bus couplers I have to put also IR receivers (they are not also IP rated) and the cost gets much higher.

Not strictly elegant... but just a thought.

Could you mount the NEO in a suitable weatherproof enclosure and use 2, 4, 8 (whatever is required) perspex rods as actuators?

People could still operate the neo buttons by pushing the rod, and could still see the LED indicators (well, as well as you ever will outside) by using them as light-pipes.

I'm sure I've seen weatherproof button-presses for mounting on panels, that could take suitable acrylic/perspex/polycarbonate rod.

How about a Multisensor under an eave operated by IR remote control?

Very true, except 2SC was saying that he can only get CIS products in Greece, not standard Clipsal ones. But I guess he could always put the IR sensor in a position where IP rating wouldnt be important, or place it inside a clear plastic enclosure, one that wouldnt hamper the path of IR (I guess a bit of experimentation would be in order if someone chose to follow this route...)

Thats a pretty nifty little weatherproofing box. It's a shame that Clipsal dont sell something similar with a membrane over the front like that one.

From having a quick look at it, I have doubts that a Neo will fit in it, but its worth a try :)

    You were right Darpa.
The case was too small, but fortunatelly Vimar has also larger ones.
So I will try with a larger one since Glad wrap that Peter suggested isn't the best idea:p (I know you were laughing at me)

Why not try a Wireless Neo switch and Rf remote instead of IR?

This should solve a lot of your problems as you can use RF outside without having to point the remote "at anything"

    Because,
I will use 4 Neo switches in the same area and it would be great to trigger all of them.

    Naked Neo

If you only require the Neo to work as an IR device you could strip the inner and outer surround away and maybe then it will fit in that enclosure.
