So its mounting time for a cbus touch screen - but at what height...

Its a B&W MkII touch screen - and considering I have never seen one of these in use in my house - I really do not know about how reflective is the screen - ie do lights shining on it annoy viewing etc.

My sparky has all light switches installed at 120cm from the floor - at first I thought these were low - but thats his standard - and I seem to be getting used to it (power points 30cm from floor and things like fridge / washing machine and the likes his standard is 150cm).

Yes I have small kids and hopefully after a couple of weeks the novelty will wear off in playing... I am tall -so dont want to be squatting down to look at the touch screen each time I use it...

What suggestions do you have -- in deciding what height the panel should be installed at....

    Hi impact,

The ones I've seen are usually mounted at shoulder height for the average person - around 1500mm I guess. Why not stick a printed screenshot on your wall and see what works for you and your family?

If you are in the uk then switches must be no higher then 120cm to the top, and sockets no lower then 45cm to the bottom to comply with building regs.

If the c-touch is the only switch in the room then it should be 120cm to the top, but you should get away with it at any height as i can't see a building insector pulling you for it. Mine here are 120cm, but been to one site today and they have 3 colour c-touchs all around 160cm but the owners are both over 6foot tall.

The viewing angle on the C-Touch MkII LCD definitely favours viewing from the top over viewing from below. There are some guidelines in the installation instructions here.

Mine is actually mounted in the wall next to the bed, so that doesn't offer much of a guide, but I've just had a look at one in the office here, and as a rough guide, I'd say you wouldn't want to install it much more than 30-40cm below your eye level (and unless you're a midget - definitely not at 120cm above the ground).... so if you're less than a foot taller than the rest of your (adult) family members... I'd suggest 20-30cm below your eye height would be good for you and better for anyone shorter.

All that said... nothing beats seeing for yourself, so if you can arrange to have a look at one and/or get your own one early any get it powered up, I'd recommend that.

    Brilliant!

It is very common for them to be mounted too low. Shoulder height is about right.

If this is a commercial install then you might need to check building regulations/specifications.

Often these types of user interface devices need to be installed at a height suitable for people confined to wheelchairs.

    Residential Australian installation...

Doubt a UK inspector will be bothering me - lol... Just as well because my power points are all 30cm from the floor to center (my sparky's decision / standard). But if they want to come half way around the world to take a look - I'll gladly take them sightseeing the next day, get them drunk and provide the entertainment to ensure they give me the appropriate tick should I ever wish to relocate my house in England - LOL

(Well I have known of castles moved to Australia from England - so anything is possible!)

I like the idea of shoulder height - nice and easy, and I like the idea of sticking a paper mockup - great ideas which I will give a try tomorrow - THANKS !!!

Although I have the device, I still have no power on the premises - so powering up might be difficult - just wanted to ensure the location for the install had no bearers, conduit, ducted vacumn pipes in the way.... Its amazing the amount of stuff in my walls! Above all that making sure the pink cable is segmented away from everything as far as possible.

    Thanks again

NickD - Touch screen next to the bed - wow !

I thought I was being extravegant by installing just a DLT on both sides of the bed....

Mind you I need to work out a good height for that too !

    hehehe...
