    HI

I not having much luck with Toolkit 1.12.5 on Win8... (also tried compability mode xp, win7, etc)

I have confirmed cgate is running as a service and I can get the Clipsal Diagnostic Util can connect sucessfully (so think the usb-serial, pc unit ,etc are all good).

But the toolkit wont connect & find any units, etc...

    Any thoughts?

Same problem here – Toolkit 1.12.5 is running fine on a Windows 7 machine but not on my Windows 8 PCs. Surely Clipsal will bring out a version that runs under Windows 8??? This is the first application I have found that doesn't run under Windows 8.

The Brains Trust at CIS are working on it...this is a known issue.

    Hi all,

Any news on when windows 8 will be reliably supported? I am having to keep a separate win 7 laptop purely for cbus and it looks like it is going to need replacing very soon and would prefer not to!

    Regards

    Paul

    Hi paulwat,

I don't have any great news for you at this time, but you and other customers definitely deserve an update on this.

The three main problems we have noticed with Windows 8 are:
    - it added more constraints on where applications can save their files
    - it blocks some port communications between applications
    - our libraries need to be updated

As noted elsewhere, in most cases some problems can be resolved by running in compatibility mode, but not all.

Our resources are painfully limited. In fact the developers have only this year been able to move from XP to Win7 machines. So you can expect Windows 7 support to improve from now on, culminating in an official declaration of support for Win7.

This will go a long way to improving the experience on Windows 8 as well, but at this time we aren't able to promise anything for that OS.

    Hi Daniel,

Thanks for the update, I appreciate that resources are finite but given that the current version of the software works under Windows 7, albeit without official support, would it not be better to focus on Windows 8 where there clearly isn't a viable solution?

Windows 7 reaches the end of it's mainstream support in 2015 and any PC's bought in the last 10 months have Windows 8 as default so it seems strange for CIS to be putting it's customers in a situation where they are selling high end new technology to their customers but make them resort to old technology to program it to work!!

    Toolkit on Windows 8

I have spent several hours on this issue and have found the following

Toolkit will not connect if using serial the only way round this is either use a CNI or a Wiser.

Toolkit needs to be install with thrid party driver support and as an Administrator, you will need to search on the web how to do this as it was a bit of a process and I cant remeber of the top of my head how it was done

You will needs to change permission rights on the Clipsal Directory so that all users can access it and have read / write permissions

Set it up to use XP Compatibilty Mode

If this is al done it should work okay, however it seems to take a very long time to scan and resolve a network so if working on big networks you will need to bevery paitent.

Hope this helps took me several hours just to figure this out.

Works fine on Windows 8 when running it in a Windows 7 Virtual Machine (using VMware Player).

Its a pain to run it this way but gets around the issue until the boffins code up an update for us.

    Toolkit vs Widows 8

    Gr8.
I installed Windows 8 three days ago only to find I can't connect.

So what commitment do Clipsal/Schneider have to fixing our issues?
Not much by the sound of it... Windows 8 has been around for how long now? And the bean counters are cutting the backside out of product development, right?
    :(

I'm attempting to connect via humble USB/serial converter.
I've managed to get as far the Toolkit Screen buy running Toolkit as an administrator but I can't connect via any of the com ports.
The option to scan the network is unavailable.
C-Gate attempts to run only to be shut down by Mr Microsoft.
When I was running C-gate on Win-7 it was always loitering in the background...

So what is the answer to this?
    And don't say Windows 7...

I've been waiting, and waiting, and have now come to accept it's time to buy a cheap used Windows PC with Win7, just for doing C-Bus stuff....actually I think I'll buy a Mac Mini i5 and load Windows XP on it, I just can't pull the trigger on buying a Windows anything :D

I have just spoken with CIS Support.
Still no firm commitment to delivery of fix for PCI or USB interfaces.
    3 options:

    A. Hold your breath and wait for next release of Toolkit;
    B. Procure Network Interface (5500CN) and connect to C-Bus via network or direct using x-over cable;
    C. Procure Wiser.

I'm taking Option B at $600+ because I don't need the Wiser functionality.
Cost of wiser is well out of the ball park over $1k.
As for Option A we've been waiting 9 months - Say no more...

TC1.12.7 has successfully installed on my Windows 8 (64-bit) PC and can connect to my C-Bus network via CNI.
Thanks to the C-Bus software boffins for getting this working!

Hi Rayson Wiggill, can you provide more information about the "issue" you refer to? The link you provide points to a new driver framework in Windows 8.1, but it also confirms that the existing framework and drivers based on it will continue to work fine.

    Hi all,

Just tried to run toolkit on Windows 8.1 and it cannot find a serial port. The screen comes up with "unavailable" even though they are visible and functional within the device manager. I have not used the toolkit for a while, since I upgraded to Win 8.

I have read through this thread and I was hoping that someone might confirm for me that:
    * this is the problem referred to above (or is this something new in Win 8.1)
    * I am using the latest version on toolkit - is this supposed to fix this?
    * Am I best to solve this through running in XP compatibility mode or as a System Administrator?

    Thanks
    Glen
