I would start by downloading PICED and playing around with creating a Wiser project. It has a simulator for Wiser, Logic/Scheduling simulator, Help manuals so you should be able to figure out a lot using it. I would also read the forum posts about port forwarding, tcp/ip configuration to pick up on the quirks that Wiser has.

    Aaron,

If you don?t mind another beginner and you want to come over to Bristol you could come and see my install if you wish. I guess it depends whereabouts in Wales you are but feel free to pop over the bridge and come see it in action if you like.

    PM me if you're interested.

    Cheers

    Help

    Hi All,

    In need of some help...
I've installed a wiser unit to c-bus and am able to access the program to control various items via wifi and my phone - very pleased:)

My next step is to link the wiser to the internet via a stand alone modem thingy?

I can get the modem to work when connected to a pc directly.

I've tried myself with a lot of help and patience from Jon (Thanks again)
but cant get internet access through the wiser unit.

My understanding of this is limited but willing to learn:D

Can anyone suggest typical 'settings' for both devices (modem and wiser).

Any help would be much appreciated.

    The modem is, please see link to manual;

    TIA, Aaron

    Off my personal cheat sheet..

    WISER SETUP FOR EXTERNAL ACCESS

    THREE STEPS

1 CREATE A FREE ACCOUNT WITH WWW.DYNDNS.ORG WHICH WILL BE SOMETHING LIKE WWW.JSMITHHOUSE.DYNDNS.ORG

    2 LAN / ROUTER SETUP
ORGANISE CUSTOMERS LAN SO WISER IS A ?NODE/DEVICE? ON EXISTING NETWORK, EFFECTIVELY SETUP 'B' FROM WISER MANUAL
DISABLE DCHP AND GIVE WISER A STATIC IP WITHIN RANGE OF CUSTOMERS ROUTER
IN CUSTOMERS ROUTER SETUP PORT FORWARD AS BELOW TO WISERS IP ADDRESS
PORT FORWARD 8080 > WISER IP
    80 > WISER IP
    8888 > WISER IP
    8889 > WISER IP
    8336 > WISER IP
    8337 > WISER IP
IN CUSTOMERS ROUTER UNDER ?DNS?, 'DDNS' OR ?DYNDNS? SETTING ENTER YOUR DETAILS FROM WWW.DYNDNS.ORG
    SAVE

    3 PICED SETUP
PROJECT DETAILS > WISER> PROPERTIES ? CHECK ALL IP DETAILS ARE CORRECT, ENSURE PASSWORDS ARE ENTERED
PROJECT DETAILS > WISER> ACCESS ? CHECK ALL ?ENABLE? BOXES, IN URL/IP ADDRESS ENTER YOUR WWW.DYNDNS.ORG DOMAIN NAME
PROJECT DETAILS > WISER> LAN ? CHECK ALLOW ACCESS, ENTER GATEWAY DETAIL OF CUSTOMERS NETWORK
    TRANSFER TO WISER

    THAT?S ALL

    Cheers,
    Nik

    Hi Nik,

    Thanks for the information.:)

I'm trying, I think, to set the wiser and my modem up as option c?
so that I can add additional network items to the wiser router in the future.

is this still possible with this set up?
or will i have to manually assign ip addresses for each new piece of kit.

and will the wireless connect/disconnect automatically?

If you are using option C, then your modem needs to be in bridge mode, and you enter your ISP login details in the Wiser (I'm assuming your ISP requires a login.. I've never heard of an ADSL service that doesn't require a login, but that doesn't mean they don't exist somewhere in the world).

You say you had internet working OK with the modem connected directly to the computer... if the modem was in bridge mode you would have had to enter login details in the computer when you set up the connection (you would have probably had to set it up as a PPPoE connection).

Did you have to do this?

If you didn't (ie you just plugged the computer into the modem and got an internet connection), then chances are the modem is NOT actually in bridge mode and you are actually using option A or B.

If you did, then you modem is in bridge mode and there is something else wrong - have you entered your ISP login details on the Setup Tab in the Wiser configuration UI (accessed via Tools page on Wiser).

    Hi Nick,

No, I entered all my ISP login details into the modem.
Any idea how I make the modem work in bridge mode?

    Hi Jon,

Good to hear from you :)

    Not complete yet . . . work in progress !?! :)
Got the wiser up and running and am able to control c-bus when I use the Wiser router.
just need to sort out remote (off site access) via router/modem.
I'll have to give you a call on that though!

I've been messing around with heating controls recently - just about there with that, thanks to a lot of help from forum. :D

Attached is how the Port Forwarding looks in the NetGear Router admin. Note: in my case the internal IP of my Wiser is the 192.1678.1.111 address. Yours will not be the same.

I also had to change the Port for the Remote Management of the Router to keep 8080 free for Wiser use.

Call if you need help Aaron. :)
