I am just setting up a Wiser unit for the first time.... On a laptop running Vista i can see and readily access the wiser on the network ( single cable from wiser to laptop). On a laptop running windows 7 in same physical set up i can see a network device icon "unidentified network" but cannot get any further ...........

Also when connecing to the PCI on window 7 i had to go to boot menu and 'allow unsigned drivers' before i could gain access. Again with Vista simply download software/driver and connect.

My guess here is that it's related to the network setup on the two PC's, not necessarily the Vista vs W7 thing. I'll leave those more knowledgeable in this area to comment further.

If your version of Windows 7 is the 64-bit edition and your PCI is a USB PCI then you will have to do this. Clipsal does not officially support Vista or Windows 7, so the appropriate drivers have not as yet been officially signed.

    Hi Newman
I use a USB to serial cable from that mob Clipsal recommend on windows 7 64 bit and they have a signed driver so need to go through the un-signed bit.

Shame Clipsal never got around to supporting Vista, maybe we will see support for Win7 before Win8 out

The USB driver that PICED installs is nothing to do with the Wiser and has no association with how PICED talks to the Wiser.

I too have this same problem. Wasted time on it today, couldn't understand why.

I have just loaded up XP mode in Windows 7 and it connects fine

Maybe I'm not understanding all the settings in Windows 7 networking... the IPv4 and IPv6 etc. By setting a fixed IP in IPv4 it appears to alter my LAN address, is this right? Anyone know Windows 7 networking?

I've avoided Vista but have been told Windows 7 will be the new standard (moving on from XP). Thus there should be support for it if this is so.

Looks like I'll be making the most of the "downgrade" option with Windows 7 to Windows XP.

Someone shout out soon if they think I shouldn't...

and explain why I have so many problems with configuring Wiser with Win 7.

You not the only one. There are many peculiarities about Win7, especially WRT networking, and with how normal and administrative users log in and their programs are run. Its all a bit of a s/w developers nightmare.
